What is Blood Sugar and How Does it Affect Health?
Have you ever felt tired for what feels like no reason? Maybe you’ve been struggling with weight loss or feeling out of balance. All of these issues can be linked to your blood sugar levels. As an Ayurvedic nutritionist, I want to help people understand the basics of how their blood sugar levels affect their health and how they can use diet, lifestyle, and herbal remedies to help support a healthy balance.
A lot of people don’t know the basics of blood sugar and how it affects their body. Blood glucose is a type of sugar that your body creates from carbohydrates that are found in your food. But if you eat too much sugar or carbohydrates, this can lead to high blood sugar levels which can cause a range of short and long-term health issues including diabetes, weight gain and fatigue.
I recently had a client who was struggling with fatigue and inability to focus. She was eating a lot of “healthy” processed food that she didn’t know were also high in sugar because they were gluten free and organic. We went through her diet and found that she was consuming too many carbs. We then switched her to a low-glycemic diet which included more whole foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, quality proteins, as well as adding in some herbal supplements to help support her blood sugar balance.
After a few weeks, she was already feeling better and more energized, and she said she felt like a new person! We continued to monitor her diet and within a few months her blood glucose levels were back in the normal range. She was now able to focus better and felt more balanced than ever before.
My client’s transformation didn’t happen overnight. It took some time, planning and dedication to make the necessary changes in her diet and lifestyle. But she stuck with it and is now a healthy, vibrant person who has a better understanding of how her body works.
